Student Design Challenge

Make learning fun and rewarding

Autodesk is partnering with educators and industry partners to offer design challenges that help students build their portfolios and apply learned concepts to real-world experiences. The Student Design Challenges provide an opportunity to step into the real world of design and learn by doing.

Student Design Challenge Benefits

Educators

  • Easily incorporate into curriculum as class assignment or final project
  • Directly appeal to student engagement by offering hands-on experience beyond the classroom or computer screen
  • Aid students in putting theory into practice
  • Expose students to real-life industry challenge

Students

  • Work on a real-world project
  • Develop industry-relevant skills to add to their resume
  • Build student portfolio of projects to show future employers
  • Open doors to potential internships
  •

“This is a unique opportunity for students to get real-world engineering experience. For most students, this is the first time that they’ve worked on a design project that wasn’t just hypothetical. This project had an actual stakeholder. Therefore, students knew that their design had the potential to make a tangible impact. This also gives students the chance to develop skills that employers are looking for.”

    -    Elizabeth Cheung, Engineering Professor at Los Angeles Pierce College

  • “I enjoyed getting more familiar with Autodesk Fusion 360 and seeing the designs come to life. I truly believe this experience will help students in their future professional lives.”

    -    Monica de Loera, Manufacturing and Engineering student

3D Printed Student Design Challenge

The ability to 3D print almost anything in a matter of hours has opened the doors to quickly iterate designs and prototypes when working on projects in school. From completed items to parts that supplement your project, you can create almost anything with a 3D design and printer. For the 3D Printed Contest, students should show off what they are able to design in Fusion 360 and how they brought that design into reality.

Back to School: Student Design Challenge

Design a product in Fusion 360 to improve the back-to-school experience. You can design from any point of view: student, faculty, friend, or family. Examples may include dorm room decor, backpack accessories, improvements on existing classroom items, or anything else that helps in the transition back to school.

Be inspired by winning designs
