Course Challenge

Precision Machining Caliper – Back – Operation 1

Course Challenge: Create all toolpaths and fixtures required to machine the back half of the brake caliper operation 1.

The following steps are required:

  • Dataset Setup – Consider creating a Derive of the caliper back and setting up a vise.
  • Tool Library Setup – Consider using the tools from the course, but make any changes required for your shop.
  • CAM Setup – Create a Setup for machining OP1 from your own derive is suggested.
  • Toolpath Creation – Create toolpaths to completely machine the caliper back OP1 and ensure all sharp edges have a chamfer toolpath to debur. • Simulation – Validate material removal through simulation.
  • Documentation – Create setup sheets and NC programs for each operation and validate G-code.
  • Machine – Set up and machine your parts, validating tool feeds/speeds, fixturing and order of operations.
  • Refine – Even if you don’t plan on machining multiple parts it’s a good idea to take notes and refine the CAM program.
