Course 2 - Haas and Autodesk Fusion - CAD, CAM, and Part Programming
In this course, you'll learn the basics of CAD modelling, process planning to machine a single operation, tool library setup in Fusion, creating toolpaths to completely machine the first side of a part, and finally setting up, running, and inspecting the part on a CNC mill.
After completing this course, you’ll be able to:
- Create basic 3D models in CAD.
- Review a CAD model and drawing.
- Create a process plan to machine a part.
- Set up a tool library in Fusion.
- Create toolpaths to machine a part.
- Create an NC program and setup sheet.
- Load and proof a program on a CNC mill.
- Run a CNC program.
- Inspect a part after machining.
- 3 Fusion files
- 4 drawing files
- 1 Haas tooling list
- 1 Haas Tip of the Day list
- 2 sets of machining best practices
- 1 process plan
- 16 step-by-step guides
- 7 practice exercises
- 6 challenge exercises, including a final course challenge
Course modules
Discover what you'll learn in this course and download the software and resources you need.
Learn the basics of CAD sketching and modeling.
Learn to create a 3D CAD model from a blueprint and make edits to a supplied CAD model.
Learn to plan tools and toolpath order to machine a part and set up a digital tool library in Fusion.
Set up and create toolpaths to machine the first operation of a brake caliper using 2.5-axis toolpaths and a 3D adaptive clearing toolpath.
Learn to create setup sheets, tool lists and NC programs to convert toolpaths into machine readable code. You will also experience a change order, make adjustments to a CAD model and update toolpaths.
Set up stock on a CNC mill, location the work coordinate system, ensure the appropriate tools are in the tool holder, load and verify a program, run OP1 and inspect a final part.
Now that you've completed the learning material in this course, you can take the challenge exercise to measure your skills on the topics covered in this course.

Machining best practices
Machining best practices supports you in the CNC machining of the model engine rod soft jaw. Review the process plan and cutting data for general guidelines to support you in this project. The sample setup sheet provides information about how the part was machined. Post machining, inspect your part while reviewing the supplied detailed drawing, and populate the inspection report to verify acceptable part tolerances. The machining best practices includes a process plan, cutting data, setup sheet, and inspection reports.
Lectures
Lecture slides serve as supplementary resources, encompassing instructor lectures, handouts, and quiz materials, specifically designed to offer additional support and reinforce course topics.
Fusion step-by-step guides and slides
Step-by-step print guides are available for your students as accompanying instruction to the Autodesk Fusion video instruction. Step-by-step guides are also available as presentation slides to support classroom instruction.
